It’s that time of year folks! The time when everyone is frantically rushing around like headless chickens trying to fit in any last minute shopping and tick things of their ‘things to do’ list. Locations all over London are full of shoppers, buying gifts and presents for their loved ones. Covent Garden, one of the most famous places in London, has plenty of high street and high end shops to help you complete your Christmas shopping. Access to this popular destination is possible via Covent Garden London Underground station on the Piccadilly line. Tourists can be seen taking Covent Garden taxis around town to their desired destination to ensure they get there directly.
Popular for its high-end shopping around the piazza and down the side streets, why not pick up a present or two here. As well as many boutiques, expensive and high street stores there is also a market place. Apple Market is a burgeoning craft market that is situated in the piazza in the centre of Covent Garden’s square. Getting people the same old presents year in year out can be a little boring. Upon visiting a craft market, you will have a lot more choice of some alternative items you can give as gifts. Giving them something unique and crafty will be greatly appreciated after a barrage of socks, chocolates and smellies. Across from the Apple Market is another sheltered market place called Jubilee Hall, which as well as selling crafts and gifts, as well as antiques, art and china.
After a successful shop in the area you may be flagging, so why not stop somewhere for refreshments and a bite to eat. There are many cafes and bars in the area if you just want a drink and a small bite to eat. However, if you are looking for somewhere to settle down for the evening and relax after an exhausting shopping trip then you can take your pick from a selection of great establishments. There are a number of cosy pubs to relax in, but one of the best is the Marquess of Anglesey. This traditional pub is located opposite the Royal Opera House just behind Covent Garden square. Part of the Youngs pub group, you can guarantee good beer, ales and wine here as well as some tasty pub food. Share a scrumptious platter, with a choice from a vegetarian, meat, fish and chip board or a selection of mini pies too. Bustling with lots of tourists, theatre goers and those wishing to socialise with friends or partners, it’s apparent that this is a very popular pub in the area. If you are likely to stay here for the majority of the evening, then make sure you know how you’re getting home. Weighed down with shopping bags and being slightly inebriated is not always a great combination when you need to catch public transport. Booking a Covent Garden taxi to take you home in advance, is a safer and more sensible idea. That way you can relax and enjoy a few tipples, knowing you have planned your journey home.
